Markets
The highlight of the calendar for the Bailgate area is Lincoln's world famous Christmas Market, held during the second weekend of December in and around the Castle grounds. This market, the largest of its kind in Europe, is based on the traditional German-style Weihnachtsmarkt as found in several German cities, including Lincoln's twin town Neustadt an der Weinstrasse.
The increasingly popular Farmers Markets are held at various places in the city, including Castle Hill. These offer fresh Lincolnshire produce such as cheese, flowers, plants and herbs with many of delicious treats from fudge to burgers.
Another food-related crowdpuller is the popular Autumn Sausage festival, which attracts people from miles around.
The summertime Artists' Markets, which take place on Steep Hill, are another success, proving popular with buyers and sellers alike. Here shoppers can find unique pieces of art, which have been lovingly crafted in the Lincoln area.
