Steep Hill
Steep Hill is the aptly named street connecting the ‘uphill’ and ‘downhill’ parts of Lincoln. Boasting numerous independent shops, tea rooms and pubs, as well as Norman houses and some jettied half-timbered dwellings, the street is a popular tourist attraction.
At the top lies Bailgate and the rest of the Cathedral Quarter, while the bottom leads to The Strait and the modern city centre. Steep Hill contains many steps and a handrail to aid pedestrians. It is too steep for vehicular traffic, which must take a more circuitous route.
